We are a Bible-believing church. This is what we believe:

God

There is one true, holy God, eternally existing in three equal persons:

  • God the Father

  • God the Son, Jesus Christ

  • God the Holy Spirit

The characteristics of God are unchanging and demonstrate His holiness, His wisdom, His justice and His love.  In the beginning God created the world out of nothing and continues to sustain the universe by His sovereign power.  He is working throughout history to redeem man, who spoilt the relationship he had with his Creator when he entered into sin by disobeying God.

Mankind

We were created by God to love Him, to glorify Him, and to enjoy Him forever.

When Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the beginning, the whole human race and creation were involved in "The Fall".   The image of God remains in mankind but is "defaced" and needs to be restored through Christ.  We are all "by nature children of disobedience" (Ephesians 2:2).

It is God’s desire that we should be perfected again in the image of His Son Jesus Christ.  This is only possible by repenting and having faith in Jesus, who took the punishment for all our sin, every single thing we have done, are doing and will do, that is against God’s ways.

Only those who accept Salvation through Jesus’ death on the cross as a gift are able to be once again in a right relationship with God and to live a Christian life in the here and now.

When God comes to judge the world, He will take those who have accepted Him as their Saviour to be with Him forever.

The Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ was truly God and truly man, born of a virgin by the Holy Spirit.  He came to earth to show us how to live and provide a way of reconciliation between man and God.  To accomplish this He died on the cross "once for all, the just for the unjust, to bring us to God." (1 Peter 3:18)  He rose from the dead in a bodily form to give us the hope of resurrection in a new heaven and a new earth.  He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of His Father where He intercedes for all believers here on earth.  Having come to earth the first time in order to save us all from our sin, He will come again one day and we will ALL face Him then as our Judge; but if we have trusted Him as our Saviour we have no need to fear that day.

The Bible

God’s word has been revealed to us in The Bible.  We believe that the Bible, consisting of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments alone, was written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.  It is supremely authoritative for the Christian in all belief and conduct.

The Holy Spirit

The work of the Holy Spirit in our lives is firstly to convince each and every one of us of the reality that we are sinful and have need of Salvation.  The Holy Spirit indwells every believing Christian from the moment of conversion. When we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and accept His gift of salvation God gives us The Holy Spirit. He comes and indwells the believer and:

  • gives us new birth

  • assures us of our adoption into God's family

  • works within us to produce all the virtues of the Christian life

  • empowers the church's witness in the world

  • makes possible our resurrection from the dead

The Church

The Church is the Body of Christ here on earth, consisting of all those who have entrusted their lives to Jesus Christ.  We believe that Newquay Evangelical Church is a local expression of that universal Church and that God has placed us in Newquay to worship Him and serve Him in this town.

Baptism and The Lord's Supper

Jesus Christ left us two visual acts  -Baptism and The Lord's Supper (or Holy Communion).

  • Jesus instructed us to be baptised.  Passing through the waters of Baptism is a symbol of passing from our old life to our new life in Christ, of having our lives "cleansed from sin".

  • Jesus instructed us to remember the Last Supper he took with his disciples - the eating of bread and drinking of wine - as a symbol of His body and blood which were sacrificed for us on the cross.
